Meet the Skoda Epiq — the Czech brand’s new electric baby-SUV.It's an important car as it not only brings a smaller offering to Skoda's electric car range, but also shows off the carmaker's new design language called "Modern Solid".

Details are still sketchy, but ahead of the IAA Munich Mobility Show next week, Skoda has revealed the first official pictures of the car.

Here's everything we know so far about Skoda Epiq.

What is the Skoda Epiq?

The Epiq is Skoda's new pint-sized electric SUV, and its smallest EV in its line-up. It's built on the VW Group’s "MEB Entry" as destined for the forthcoming new Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID.Polo superminis, but here it has SUV-like proportions and yet remains compact at 4.1 metres long. It's also Skoda’s first car to feature its new "Modern Solid" design language – more on this later on.

What cars will the Skoda Epiq rival?

Skoda is aiming the Epiq right at the challengers in the affordable EV space: fresh rivals like the Citroen e-C3, Renault 4 and BYD Atto 2, but also pricier contenders such as the Mini Aceman and Volvo EX30. It’s also a sibling to the Volkswagen ID.Polo and Cupra Raval.

What range will the Skoda Epiq have?

Skoda has confirmed the Epiq will provide up to 264 miles of range – that will be for the most efficient version, of course, but it means the Epic will compare very favourably to its rivals. A mooted Epiq vRS will trade range for performance, just like the vRS versions of the Elroq and Enyaq.

It's more than likely that the Epiq will use the same 38kWh and 56kWh batteries that are expected to be used in the Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID.Polo, with which the Epiq shares its platform. Volkswagen is already on the record for saying the ID.Polo will be able to charge from 10 to 80% in around 20 minutes thanks to a maximum charging rate of 125kw, so we expect the same for the Epiq.

Modern Solid? What’s that?

Modern Solid is Skoda’s new design language, and the Epiq is its first real-world showcase. The brand says the new design "combines robustness, functionality, and authenticity". So, there are T-shaped LED and a "Tech-Deck Face" that houses the safety and advanced driving assistance sensors.

On the inside, Skoda says the Epiq reflects Skoda's new "Mobile First" approach, so it's minimalist and functional. There's wireless phone charging, Simply Clever compartments, as well as physical buttons and haptic scroll wheels. Boot space stands at an impressive 475 litres.

How much will the Skoda Epiq cost and when can I buy one?

The Epiq is expected to start at about €25,000 (roughly £21,500), solidly undercutting many rival small crossover EVs and landing it squarely in affordable territory. That pricing will also peg the Epiq with the Kamiq - Skoda's current petrol-powered small SUV offering.

Production kicks off in 2025, with UK showroom arrivals likely in late 2025 or early 2026.
