Tesla’s celebrating a double win for its May sales results – not only is it back on top in the race to be the biggest EV seller in the country, but the Texan carmaker also notched up its 300,000th sale in the UK.

The company currently sells just two vehicles in the UK, with its Model 3 and Model Y ranges available. The Model S and Model X cars were available in left-hand-drive format, but were canned worldwide at the beginning of 2026, while the firm’s Cybertruck model is not road legal in Europe.

There are some compelling finance deals on the 3 and Y, though – if you lease a Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive from Tesla for instance you can get it for £290 a month over three years/24,000 miles with a six-month downpayment.

Tesla is also taking the opportunity to tout its achievements in the UK in the 12 years since it officially started selling cars here – it says on top of the 300,000 cars it has installed over 2,100 of its Superchargers and has put in over 1GWh of energy storage through its Powerwall initiative that installs batteries in homes to make best use of renewable generation.

Electrifying founder Ginny Buckley congratulated Tesla on its milestone achievement but warned that the market has got more competitive: “Tesla deserves enormous credit for proving that electric cars could be desirable, practical and mainstream. The company was the disruptor that forced the entire automotive industry to take EVs seriously.

“The irony is that Tesla now faces the same challenge as every established car maker - fierce competition. Consumers have more choice than ever before, particularly from ambitious Chinese brands and increasingly capable rivals from Europe and Korea.

“Reaching 300,000 UK deliveries is a remarkable achievement, but the next 300,000 are likely to be much harder won.”
