BYD’s upmarket DENZA brand is making its official public debut in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with models including a Porsche Taycan rival, a posh minivan and a tough-looking boxy off roader.

As part of the build-up to starting sales at the beginning of 2026, DENZA’s presence at Goodwood is being led by the Z9GT, a sporty estate which gives the choice of either a pure-electric powertrain or a plug-in hybrid. It has gadgets such as the ability to crab into parking spots by using its three motors to turn wheels independently. It is also said to have the turning circle of a city car.

The base of the  Z9GT is the e3 Platform, based on three-motors which give rear-wheel dual-motor independent steering, Vehicle Motion Control and Cell-to-Body battery-body integration.

There will also be DENZA’s D9, a huge luxury MPV to take on the weird new Lexus LM and the B5, a premium SUV that will rival the Land Rover Defender. These will use PHEV powertrains, including a 677bhp version in the case of the B5.

DENZA was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, but it is now wholly owned by BYD.

Executive Vice President of BYD Stella Li said: “We’re confident that British car enthusiasts will find inspiration in how DENZA blends European influence with our sophisticated technologies, the finest craftsmanship and, for the first time in this segment, a true focus on efficient, sustainable new-energy powertrains.”

B5 will have a PHEV powertrain with more than 600bhp
