Vauxhall has revealed a new top-of-the-range version of its Grandland Electric with two motors, giving all wheel drive and 325HP.

The Grandland Electric AWD also features design enhancements to provide a sportier appearance while reducing wind resistance. Aerodynamically optimised inserts on the front and rear bumpers, along with 20-inch two-tone aero wheels, make the Electric AWD the most aerodynamically-efficient Grandland model, with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.278.

The AWD features the larger 73kWh battery that delivers up to 311 miles (WLTP) of range – a drop of 14 miles compared to the single motor model.

The system combines the 213PS front-wheel drive electric motor featured in the standard Grandland Electric and couples it with an additional 112PS electric motor for the rear wheels. Thanks to this combination, Grandland Electric AWD provides a total maximum torque of 509Nm and a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds, compared to 9.0 seconds for the 2WD car.

The Grandland Electric AWD offers four distinct drive modes: Normal Mode limits the maximum power output to 317PS and maximum torque to 450 Nm. Depending on the driver’s demands, the rear motor and wheels automatically engage and both motors deliver their full power if the throttle pedal is floored.

In AWD Mode, the two electric motors operate continuously, with power distributed evenly between all four wheels, providing stability on slippery surfaces. The ESP and traction control systems adopt specific settings to enhance grip. Maximum power and torque are available.

The two motors also operate continuously in Sport Mode: with power distributed 60:40 between the front and rear axles. Maximum power and torque are available. The steering and accelerator pedal also adopt a specific ‘Sport’ setting, providing increased responsiveness.

In Eco Mode, the front motor and wheels are mainly used, maximum power is limited to 215PS and maximum torque to 343Nm. During strong acceleration the rear motor and wheels automatically engage, and both motors deliver their full power. The air conditioning and accelerator pedal also adopt an Eco setting.

The chassis has also been upgraded, with specific spring, anti-roll bar, steering and ESC tuning, plus dampers with frequency selective damping technology.

Pricing and specification details will be outlined closer to the UK start of sales date in early Autumn.
