The BMW i7's looks are controversial to say the least. But the interior is just gorgeous, and the massive cinema-like screen for rear passengers is a really cool party trick to offer VIP chauffeur passengers. It’s incredibly quiet and comfy, too.

Ginny Says

“Cars like the i7 don't seem terribly relevant in the world today, as they will suit only a few well-heeled VIPs. But the tech from cars like this will soon filter down to the cars us mere mortals drive.”

Nicki Says

“I'm not going to let my kids anywhere near the i7 when it is finally launched. That Theatre Display rear screen will spoil them for life and is far too good for Peppa Pig.”

Does the BMW i7 replace the 7-Series?

No - there will still be PHEV hybrid versions of the new 7-Series, and petrol only models in other markets outisde the UK. The i7 is the all electric version, just as there is an X3 and an iX3 or a 4-Series and an i4.

Will there be an iX7?

Inevitably. No official word on dates yet though.

What is the range of the BMW i7?

The i7 has a huge battery - 101kWh of usable capacity, which is more than three times the pack you'd get in something like a MINI Electric.  The range figure is between 367-388 miles, depending on the specification and wheels.

How long does it take to charge a BMW i7?
The huge battery means charging at home is going to take a long time - about 18 hours on a wallbox if you want to go from empty to 100%. A rapid charge is pretty quick though - pull into a service station with a 150kW rapid and you'll get from 10-80% in 35 minutes. A 350kW will be faster still - 10 minutes will add 100 miles in the right conditions.

What is the BMW i7's Theatre Screen?

It is BMW's new rear-seat infotainment (pictured above), which is a screen across the entire width of the vehicle, which folds down on command and turns the i7 into a cinema on wheels. And to be prepared for the longest journey, there is also the first automotive application for the Amazon Firestick, which opens up access to a long list of streaming providers.

How much does the BMW i7 cost?

They start at £108,305 - before you start ticking the options boxes.

Will the new BMW i7 be the base for the electric Rolls Royce?

Yes, they will share many components. That's good news for Rolls, as the i7 is both good to drive and refined.
