The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ SUV is almost as big as its name. This is not a car which does things by halves. It's fast in a straight line but also manages to be more involving in the corners than rivals. It's a triumph of engineering, but doesn't have the drama AMG fans will desire.

“Although the EQE SUV is faster than you'd ever need a big 4x4 to be, it feels refined and comfortable behind the wheel. When it comes to the interior Mercedes clearly went for the 'more is more' approach, perhaps to help justify the price, but I think it's ended up feeling overdone and doesn't feel as modern as it's rivals.”

“When you are spending £130,000+ on a car you get an awful lot of choice, so the EQE SUV needs to be pretty special. Unfortunately the performance and charging speeds aren't going to win any prizes, but the interior is amazing. Perhaps it's actually a bit too much? Even my local cinema doesn't have that many screens.”
