Pricing
Tesla has grown the Model Y line-up since launch to incorporate an entry-level model. Simply badged Model Y, it's available from £44,990, wearing a slight premium over its Model 3 sibling with the same battery and motor. Further up the range, you'll be paying £52,990 to get into a Model Y Long Range, while the searing Performance version is offered from £59,990.
Interestingly, if you opt for a monthly PCP deal, the Model Y can actually work out cheaper on a month to month basis than the Model 3 saloon, likely owing to its greater residual values. A representative payment for the Model Y is around £466, depending on your deposit, mileage and length of agreement. Under the same terms, we found the Model 3 priced at £522 a month.
White is the only standard colour with all others costing £1,100 (or £2,100 for the multicoat red) while the self-driving tech is £6,800. A tow bar is available for £1,090.
Running Costs
If you’re swapping from a petrol or a diesel into a Tesla Model Y, then you will be surprised at how little it costs to look after a Tesla. With fewer moving parts, servicing and maintenance costs are considerably cheaper on the whole, and while Tesla doesn’t publish serving costs a three year/36,000-mile service plan should be around the £500 mark when the Model Y eventually arrives in the UK.
Home charging will depend on an assortment of factors but as a rough guide we’d expect the Long Range, plugged into a 7kW wallbox, to cost around £10.50. On-street charging will be more expensive but you’ll likely be using Tesla Superchargers, and at 24p per kWh they’re reasonably priced.
