You may have seen that electric car sales surged in the last few months, but what the sales numbers also show is how Chinese brands are starting to gain popularity.
It’s no surprise that MG is in the Top 10 best selling cars in the UK in September 2025, with its perennially popular MG HS PHEV, but it is something of a surprise that it was outsold by BYD and Jaecoo - both of which were also best sellers for the same period, with the BYD Seal U and Jaecoo 7.

In fact, BYD’s UK sales jumped by huge 880% last month, making the UK its biggest market outside of China - just as it opens its 100th dealership over here, too.
Arguably, it’s Jaecoo that is the bigger surprise when it comes to the rise of Chinese brands. The Jaecoo 7 was the fourth best selling car last month, chalking up 6,489 sales in September. Part of the Chery group, the Jaecoo brand hasn’t even been on sale for a full year in the UK, so its gained significant popularity in a very short period of time. Jaecoo (together with sister brand Omoda) has just opened its 80th dealership in the UK.
