Geely has revealed that its next car to launch in the UK will be the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid PHEV (that’s its pedigree name, we’ll probably just call it the Starray for short), a plug-in hybrid SUV that’ll do up to 84 miles of WLTP range in electric mode.
There will be two battery sizes to go along with the 1.5-litre petrol engine – an 18.4kWh battery and a larger 29.8kWh pack, both LFP. The smaller battery is rated up to 51 miles of range.
The Starray will come with 7kWh AC onboard charging as standard, plus it will be capable of DC fast charging, up to 30kW for the smaller battery and 60kW for the larger one, getting from 30–80% charge in 20 minutes and 16 minutes respectively.
Geely says that the new car has been designed to maximise efficiency, prioritising low fuel consumption, although it does also say that it has worked with the handling funsters at Lotus to make the car drive well on British roads.
The new Starry EM-i Super Hybrid will be Geely’s second car on sale in the UK after the EX5 was launched at the end of 2025. That car is a fully electric family SUV with a lot to recommend it, including a nifty drawer under the rear seats you’ll be showing off to everyone.
The Starray SUV goes on sale in February, with prices starting from £29,990. Keep an eye on Electrifying.com for more details on the new car in the coming weeks.
