Leapmotor B05 price and spec details revealed – loads of kit for just £28,995

Leapmotor has revealed pricing and spec details for its new B05 electric hatchback that’s set to go on sale within months.

In keeping with the Chinese carmaker’s UK tradition there will only be one well equipped version of the car on sale, and it’s priced at £30,495.

But wait a second, Leapmotor is also applying its ‘Leap grant’, which is the same as the UK government’s Band 2 electric car grant value of £1,500 (that the B05 doesn’t qualify for because the grant is intended to promote European built EVs), so it’ll actually cost £28,995.

The B05 is powered by a 215hp electric motor mounted in the rear of the car and powering the back wheels. Leapmotor says it’ll get from 0–62mph in 6.7 seconds and that the car has been tuned for European roads.

One of Leapmotor’s in-house developed and built batteries is installed in the bottom of the B05 – a 65kWh (usable) number that the carmaker says is good for a 300-mile WLTP range. A max charge rate of 178kW means the B05 will get from 30–80% charge in 17 minutes.

But let’s get onto the spec – as standard (mainly because there actually are no options apart from paint and interior trim colours) the B05 comes with adaptive cruise control, 360-degree parking cameras, heated steering wheel and electrically adjustable front seats, eco leather upholstery, 14.6in touchscreen infotainment with Apple and Android connectivity, wireless phone charging, ambient interior lighting, auto lights and wipers, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone voice commands and the Leapmotor app that can turn your mobile into your key.

Phew. Should also add that the boot is 345 litres, expanding to 1,400 with the seats tipped down, there are two Isofix points in the back and the front seats fold down flat for a snooze while you charge or whatever.

Like all Leapmotors the B05 comes with a four-year/60,000-mile warranty, although the batteries are covered for eight years and 100,000 miles.

Leapmotor says that order books for the new B05 hatchback will open in early July, with deliveries set to take place as soon as the end of July – a bonus of only having one trim level. There's no sign of the hot hatch version that was revealed at this year's Beijing motor show coming to the UK, so it looks like we'll have to make do with this one.

We've already been behind the wheel of the B05 in China (image above), but keep an eye on Electrifying.com for our first proper drive of the new car.
