MG is set to unveil a brand-new electric SUV at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, with a teaser image hinting at a potential UK debut for the IM6 – a high-performance Tesla Model Y rival.
The preview, posted on MG’s social media channels, confirms that “all will be revealed” on 10 July, describing the launch as “the beginning of our next chapter.” While MG has yet to name the car, the silhouetted image strongly resembles the IM6, a premium electric crossover already on sale in Australia in right-hand drive.

That move suggests MG may soon launch SAIC’s IM brand in the UK. IM – a joint venture between SAIC, Alibaba and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech – has previously been tipped for a European rollout, and MG’s Marylebone showroom has already hosted the IM L6 saloon in recent months.
In China, the IM6 sits at the top end of the EV market, offering up to 767bhp and 0–62mph in a claimed 3.5 seconds. It also features 800V electrical architecture, enabling ultra-rapid charging at speeds of up to 396kW – enough to go from 30 to 80 per cent in just over 15 minutes.

The move would continue MG’s push upmarket, following the launch of the Cyberster electric roadster and the striking Cyber X SUV concept. The brand has also recently introduced the S5 EV, a more mainstream successor to the popular but value-led ZS EV.
Expect full details when the wraps come off at Goodwood on 10 July.
