Porsche has finally revealed the production version of its new Cayenne Electric SUV, and the headline figures will make you choke on your tea. The most powerful version of the car, the Turbo, gets 1,156hp and 1,500Nm of torque for a 0–62mph time of 2.5 seconds, which is as quick as a 911 Turbo S.

It’s going to be available at first with two versions – the ‘entry’ level Cayenne Electric, which will start from £83,200 and the Turbo Electric, which will start from £130,900. That latter price sounds expensive (and of course it is), but it’ll net you five seats and a big boot as well that the performance of that 911 Turbo S for nearly £70k less. Does take the Cayenne Electric right into Range Rover Electric territory though...

The standard Cayenne Electric will be the rangiest version, rated at 399 miles WLTP (a mere 387 miles for the Turbo version), and all Cayennes will be capable of filling up their 113kWh batteries at 390kW thank to Porsche’s 800V technology. The German carmaker says the car can get from 10–80% charge in less than 16 minutes, which is probably quicker than calling your stockbroker for a quick update on your portfolio. And of course you now have the option of charging your Cayenne wirelessly too

As well as its 2.5secs 0–62mph time, the Electric Turbo will get to 124mph from rest in 7.4 seconds and has a 162mph top speed. The headline 1,156hp can only be accessed for short bursts when you press the ‘push to pass’ button on the steering wheel that activates for 10 seconds at a time. Normally you’ll have to make do with 857bhp from the Turbo model. The standard car has a 4.8secs 0–62mph time and a top speed of ‘just’ 143mph thanks to a more manageable 408hp output.

Porsche says that the regenerative braking on the new Cayenne is particularly powerful, with up to 600kW of power behind it. That means that the disc brakes are only rarely roused into action and help make the car a bit more efficient.

Adaptive air suspension and active dampers are standard across the range, and a rear steer system that turns the back wheels by up to five degrees is also an option. There’s over 2,500kg to keep in check here, so the air suspension will come in handy. And when you’re towing too – the Cayenne Electric is rated to tow an impressive 3,500kg. We’ve already driven prototype versions of the Cayenne Electric (without caravans attached) and we were impressed with the drive.

Slim matrix LED headlights and a grille-less front have successfully fused the Taycan front end with the Cayenne’s signature look. Porsche has managed to disguise the bulk of the car quite well too, with a sleek silhouette and a rear end marked out by the full width light bar and illuminated Porsche lettering. It barely looks any bulkier than a Macan.

The Cayenne Electric is 55mm longer than the combustion version, with 130mm extra between the wheels. This means more space inside the cabin, and a suitably large boot, with 781 litres of capacity increasing to 1,588 litres with the seats down plus a 90-litre frunk under the bonnet.

The interior is touchscreen-tastic, though manages to fall short of being outright tacky. There are three huge screens possible inside the car – a 14.25in digital instrument panel for the driver, a 12.5in central touchscreen infotainment ‘flow display’ screen that’s curved and offers always on button access for various features, plus there’s an optional 14.9in display for passengers.

If you don’t fancy the electric version of the Cayenne the petrol and plug-in hybrid versions of the car will stay in production alongside the Electric with a few updates to keep them fresh. If you do fancy the Cayenne Electric you can order one from Porsche already, though deliveries won’t start until some point early in 2026. A coupe version follows later in 2026 with further models to be announced by Porsche.

Porsche has been worried buyers are getting cold feet on electric cars – will this change their minds?
