New Smart #2 leaked ahead of Paris reveal

​Almost two weeks ahead of its official reveal at the 2026 Paris motor show in October, the new, electric Smart #2 has been leaked in regulatory documents released by the Chinese government. The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology or MIIT releases public notices of all vehicle model applications submitted to the regulatory body and the Smart #2 is no exception.

In the filing, three images have been revealed of the undisguised #2 in the form of a front three quarter shot, rear elevation, and a collage of the cosmetic optional extras that Smart has filed ahead of the #2’s release.

That third image is perhaps the most interesting as it gives us some clues  and insights into some potential variants of the #2. Specifically, it seems the road-going #2 may retain some of the most curious design elements featured on the #2 concept car. Specifically, listed under “optional front grille” are the handbag-like straps that appeared as a motif throughout the concept car.

There are also several trim colour options, wheel designs, and badge variants on display as well as a more aggressive side skirt option. Could that be hinting at a potential return of the Brabus name to the smallest Smart?

Images aside, there have also been several technical specifications featured in the filing including dimensions and weight. The #2 will be 2.76m long, 1.67m wide, and 1.56m tall. We also know that the #2’s kerb weight will be 1130kg. Quite a bit more than the petrol powered Smart cars of old, but featherweight for an EV!
