Renault has unveiled new versions of its biggest EVs, including one which has a battery with almost 20 times the capacity of an R5 hatchback. It can also charge at 720kW – more than three times more than a Tesla.

The new Renault Trucks E-Tech range is designed around businesses’ specific needs. The E-Tech T 780 is focused on range and the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 585 on payload, while the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 540 is smaller, making it suitable for regional distribution.

The increased range of the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780 and T 585 has been achieved by integrating an electric axle, which enables all parts of the powertrain – electric motors and transmission – to be grouped together at the vehicle’s rear. This frees up space between the side members to accommodate additional battery packs.

These new models are fitted with high-energy-density NCA (Nickel, Cobalt, Aluminium) lithium-ion batteries, with a specific L-shape design to fit in the new layout. Renault Trucks guarantees their performance up to eight years or a million kilometres.

The E-Tech T 585, which has a 585 kWh battery capacity, can travel 286 miles on a single charge, while offering the highest payload in this vehicle range- up to 28 tonnes, according to local regulations.

With 780 kWh of capacity, the Renault Trucks E-Tech T 780 achieves a range of 373 miles. To get the most out of stops, both models are compatible with charging stations equipped with the ultra-fast Megawatt Charging System (MCS), up to 720 kW. These stations can provide up to 217 miles of range in a 45-minute driver's rest break. They can also be charged at a depot using the standard CCS connectors at up to 350 kW.

The 6x2 tractor versions of the E-Tech T 585 and T 780 now feature built-in air suspension, providing optimal driving comfort and greater manoeuvrability when docking. Their lightweight, steerable and liftable axle protects tyres during return trips at low load.

Renault is also upgrading its current model, the E-Tech T 540 4x2, which will now be able to travel 281 miles on a single charge.

All the trucks have a full range of connected and predictive services which use tracking and charge planning to get the most out of them. This includes an app which allows drivers to monitor charging status and pre-condition the cab and battery temperatures.

The new models will be produced at the plant in Bourg-en-Bresse, where vehicles in the electric heavy-duty range – Renault Trucks E-Tech T and Renault Trucks E-Tech C – have been assembled since late 2023. They are available to order now.
