Vauxhall has responded to criticism of its high prices for electric cars by slashing £5,500 off the entry level price of its Corsa, bringing it into line with rivals such as the MG4 and BYD Dolphin.

The new entry level model is called the Corsa Electric YES, and is initially a special edition. It is only available with the older 136PS powertrain and 50kWh battery, but can still cover up to 221 miles (WLTP) on a charge and can be re-charged from 0-80% in 30 minutes from a 100kW rapid charger.

The special edition features styling from the GS version, with a black roof, the black exterior mirror housings and the 16-inch black alloy wheels. In addition to a Record Red paint colour which is exclusive to the YES, customers can also choose Arctic White, Carbon Black or Graphic Grey.

Inside there’s a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless smartphone integration, alongside a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and Vauxhall Connect.

YES Edition models also feature automatic lights and wipers, climate control, LED headlights and daytime running lights, high beam assist, keyless entry and start, rear parking sensors, electric front and rear windows as well an array of driver-assistance tech.

Buyers will also benefit from one year’s free charging credit at Tesco stores across the country, following an announcement last week.

The YES Edition will be sold exclusively online, with orders set to open from 17 April.
