The ultimate Christmas gift list for EV drivers

It can be hard to find the right thing to get someone at Christmas, especially when it's someone who already seems to have everything they need. In fact, you'll find few people more fulfilled in life than electric car drivers. But we put our brains together (well, we used Tom Barnard's brain) and we've come up with a definitive lift of must-buy gifts for the EV driver in your life. Check out our nine picks below. Top tip: the cheapest one is at the end.

Tiny Tesla

Is the Tesla Cybertruck a wind-up? Why yes it is. At least in this 1:43 scale children’s toy form, though it isn’t suitable for nippers under three in case you were thinking of sticking one of these in their stocking. And this £35 die cast version of the Cybertruck remains the only one that’s legal to sell in the UK. Once you’ve turned the wheel on the back and pointed it in the right direction, the tiny truck has full self-driving capabilities. At least until it smacks into the skirting board or hits the dog. And don’t let anyone say that Tesla doesn’t have a sense of humour – the mini Cybertruck comes complete with broken window detailing to mark Elon Musk’s disastrous press conference showing off the ‘bulletproof’ windows and seeing them thoroughly smashed before his eyes.

Mini Twingo

Can’t wait until early 2027 for the new electric revival of the Renault Twingo to arrive? The French carmaker has your back with this Originals Renault Store limited edition ride-on Twingo that both looks ahead to the future and pays tribute to the past. The plastic and metal bodied toy has rubber wheels, is suitable for children aged 24 months and up, and interestingly it’s actually the same size as the first generation Twingo. Like the new car it’s zero emission, which is a bonus. It retails at €110 on Renault’s online shop, which is £96.50 at current exchange rates.

Beach towels

What could be better than a Kia EV9 beach towel? Two Kia EV9 beach towels! These stylish black numbers are made from 100% recycled materials and would be a beautiful complement to your Kia EV9. Or perhaps you drive a smaller Kia and would like strangers at the seaside to believe that you have the wherewithal to buy yourself a large SUV that starts at £65,000. This set costs £39.01 from the Kia parts store – annoyingly though, if you wanted to get these for all passengers to save their seats German-style you’d need to get four sets to cover the seven seats.

Porsche blender

We just can’t decide whether this is amazing or the worst thing we’ve ever seen. Why not both? A blend of the two things, if you will. You can get the Smeg/Porsche blender in either white or green, and it comes with a 1.5-litre jug, four manual speed settings and three drinks-themed presets, plus a lid with an opening that means you can chuck stuff in while you’re mixing it up without sending bits of frozen summer fruits up the ceiling. We haven’t actually checked this, but the blender might even be powered by the same e-motor from the Taycan. It also comes with a self-cleaning function, which more Porsche branded items ought to benefit from. You’d have to really like whoever you’re buying this for at £399.95 (including VAT, so it’s actually a bargain). There are slightly cheaper (but we’re still talking £200 here) kettle and toaster options, but they’re both sold out at the moment.

Electric drive

Maybe the way to convince someone that electric cars can be fun is to buy them an electric car driving experience. You’d expect that it involves driving up the M1 at 63mph in the sheeting rain while dodging lorries, with a bonus 45-minute stopover while you try to get the rapid charger to accept your card details and get going. You’d expect that, but actually the TrackDays website has a fun couple of hours prepared where you get a few exciting hot laps in a Tesla Model S P90D in Ludicrous mode followed by another few laps behind the wheel, with one to one tuition to help you get the most out of the drive. It currently starts from £79 for some laps, or £99 for some more laps.

Festive jumper

We didn’t know we wanted an electric car-themed Christmas jumper until we saw some of the options at French website Mister EV. This ‘Sweat de Noël’ with Christmas lights in the shape of a tree emerging from a generic small EV is possibly our favourite one. It would be the perfect way to show off the fact that your electric car has V2L capability. It’s a relative bargain at €25 (that’s £22), too. (Livraison is available to the UK, but it’ll cost €17, so you’ll have to buy more to get the best value, obviously – and don’t forget all that delicious import tax either)

A little boost

From one Christmas jumper to another. You would think that seeing as you’re carrying around many kilowatt hours of electricity in a massively heavy battery setup that you couldn’t possibly run out of the necessary juice for starting your car, but people often don’t realise that their EV has a humble 12V battery under the bonnet (or under the floor. Or in the boot. They’re squirrelled away all over the place), but they’re needed for things like the little lights in the ceiling, recognising your key or getting the infotainment screens going, and just as susceptible to running out of juice if you leave one of them on for too long (the main battery will charge it up on the move though). This MSC Overland power bank we’ve found will dump its energy into the car if it needs a jolt, but it also has a torch and a USB socket for added utility. It’s not cheap at £89.95, but what price peace of mind?

Something warm

One of the easiest ways to get a range boost in winter is to run any sort of heating at all. Is it cold? Tough luck, you’ll just have to suffer through it. If you’ve got adaptive cruise control fitted it doesn’t really matter if you can’t feel your feet for most of the journey. MG does have your back (well, the back of your neck. And your head) with this hat and scarf set that’s made from ‘soft breathable materials’. It comes in white, blue or khaki – the khaki was sold out at the time of writing and the white option looks awful (don’t let us put you off though), so we’d opt for the tasteful blue version. The set comes with a handy little bag for the two weeks a year it's too warm to wear them. It’s a bargain at only £33 – and you’ll soon save that in electricity with the heating off.

Audio books

You spent a lot of time inside your electric car – driving slowly down the road, charging it up, driving some more, etc. But what could be more thoughtful a gift for the EV driver in your life than a subscription to an audio book streaming platform? If you were driving from London to Edinburgh for the Christmas holidays you’d be able to get through the entirety of the Lord of the Rings and still have time to get started on the Hobbit (again, we must emphasise we haven’t actually checked this). You can gift individual books at Audible or buy someone a monthly subscription (three months seems like a generous amount of time to us, and a bargain at £23.99) where they can cram in as many books as their little ears can manage.
