Hyundai has announced that its Kona electric SUV is the latest model on sale in the UK to be made eligible for the government’s electric car grant – and it's the first model from the Korean carmaker to qualify.
Every model in the Kona range now qualifies for the Band 2 £1,500 discount on a new EV, and Hyundai says the discount has knocked £38 a month off its cheapest monthly PCP deal over three years.
The previous version of the Kona is still the best EV in the world (because that’s what I drive and I won’t hear a word said against it), but the latest version is still alright – it’s a practical family electric car that’s decently efficient in real world driving.

The current generation of Kona has been on sale since 2023, so it’s still fairly fresh on the market. It was originally available with 49kWh and 65kWh versions, but is currently only on sale with the longer range option starting from £33,500 including the electric car grant. That 65kWh battery is rated at 319 miles of WLTP range in the entry car, and 282 miles on the rest of the model lineup.
Don’t fancy a free government discount on a Kona? Hyundai says that it’s still knocking £3,750 (equivalent to Band 1 of the electric car grant) off all Inster models, and £1,500 off its Ioniq 5, 6 and 9 ranges.
