Renault Twingo to cost under £20,000

Renault has confirmed that the new, electric Renault Twingo E-Tech will cost under £20,000 when it goes on sale in the UK later this year.

It was confirmed last year that the Twingo would cost under £20,000 euros when it goes on sale in Europe, but this will be for a basic spec car that we won’t be getting in the UK.

Instead, the UK will get higher spec cars, all of which will include the 10-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as in-built Google maps and a variety of downloadable apps including Waze. Other standard features include a digital driver’s readout, air conditioning, sliding rear seats and alloy wheels. Heated seats are likely to be a low-cost option.

Originally, there were only going to be four colours on the Twingo including the very cool red, yellow and green that you see here, as well as a black option. However, Renault's now added a metallic silver and a flat white option, so we'll have to wait and see if those are offered in the UK.

Finalised UK specs and pricing for the UK haven’t been confirmed yet, but company bosses have said that the Twingo is likely to get standard 50kW DC rapid charging in the UK. That's good news, as the Twingo's rapid charging (which is done via a CCS socket on the rear wing) is optional in some markets.

Will there be a petrol or hybrid Renault Twingo? “Absolutely not,” Bruno Vanel, VP of Renault Brand told Electrifying. “The Twingo is designed from the ground up to be an electric car, and that is what it will always be. We’re very happy with that!”

Will there be a bigger or smaller battery? “No, we’re confident that this is the right battery for the Twingo so we won’t be introducing any other battery options,” Vanel confirmed. “This sort of range is good for a small car like this, and with the efficiency it offers it promises to be great for real-world range, too.”

The Twingo gets a 27.5kWh LFP battery, which gives it a range of 163 miles (or 263km), and you can read all about the pros and cons of LFP battery tech in our explainer.

Vanel also hinted that, while the powertrain and battery options aren’t going to change any time soon, there may be other new upgrades and additions. “The original Twingo was offered with a fabric roof, and also with a glass roof, so maybe that’s the kind of thing we can introduce to the Twingo in time.”

Expect orders to open in the UK for the new Renault Twingo E-Tech this summer, with deliveries beginning towards the end of 2026.
