Oh no – Volvo's got too many orders for the EX60 and its steak is too juicy

Volvo’s had so many orders for its new EX60 electric SUV that it’s had to turn the factory up to 11 to crank out a few more cars.

The Swedish carmaker says that it’s had 3,000 orders in its home market alone, as well as stronger than expected demand in key markets like Germany.

It’s currently in the final stages of preparing production of the new car at its Torslanda plant to the west of its home city Gothenburg, but Volvo says that it is in negotiation with unions to work through a week of the summer holidays, something it’s never done before.

There’s a lot of work to do preparing a factory for a new assembly line, as well as training workers in the minute details of putting together a complex modern car. Production of customer cars will start in April, while the company reviews what extra cars it can squeeze off the lines to meet the demand.

Volvo’s chief commercial officer Erik Severinson is pleased at the reception that the EX60 has received so far. “That so many customers ordered the EX60 in the first month has surpassed our expectations, and it’s a good ‘problem’ to have,” he explained. “We are very encouraged to see such strong demand for our game-changing electric SUV.”

The EX60 made the headlines when it was finally revealed in January with its eye-catching 503-mile range from a full battery, which surpasses the well received BMW iX3’s 500-mile effort. Not only that, but the EX60 might be the safest car that Volvo’s ever made, which is nice.

So you’d better join the queue quickly if you want an EX60 any time soon, is what we’re hearing – orders have only opened in Europe so far, so the wait will only get longer… need a refresher on the EX60? Watch Ginny's video tour below.
