Ginny Says

“Ford's decision to use Volkswagen hardware for the Explorer comes with benefits, such as a proven and efficient powertrain. The company has wisely decided to swap out a lot of the infotainment, but there are still some irritating controls which have been carried over.”

Nicki Says

“The Explorer's exterior style is more American than European, but I'm a fan of its chunky looks and the size is bang on for UK family buyers. The designers have really thought about the interior too, with spaces to store everything out of sight. Let's hope the price is right too!”

Got questions? We've put together the most frequently-asked topics below. If there's something we haven't answered here or in the review then let us know on our contact page

Is the Ford Explorer an electric car or hybrid?

The Explorer is a 100% electric car and there are no hybrid options.

How big is the Ford Explorer?

The all-electric Ford Explorer which is being sold in Europe is 4.4 metres long - almost exactly the same length as the best-selling Nissan Qashqai.

Is the Ford Explorer a rebadged Volkswagen?

Not quite – Ford describes VW as a ‘supplier’. While Ford uses its own body and interior styling, the drivetrain and some other major components are identical to the ID models.

Does the Ford Explorer use the VW infotainment system?

No, thankfully Ford has installed its own. But there are some haptic buttons and other parts which will confuse and irritate owners, especially if they are used to Fords.

How fast can the Ford Explorer charge?

Using a rapid-charger, both the battery options will charge from 10 per cent 80 per cent in around 25 minutes via a charge port on the rear wing. That’s at a maximum speed of 130kW for the smaller pack or 170kW for the larger one.
