We’ve got a name for Bentley’s upcoming electric number and it’s called… the Torcal.
Along with a mysterious teaser image of the back end of the car, that’s really all the new information we have, aside from a lengthy explanation of where the name comes from.
Let’s get through that, then we’ll remind ourselves of what we know so far about the new electric Bentley, when it’s coming and where it might fit in to the Bentley range.
The Torcal is named after El Torcal de Antequera, which is a bit of rock just north of Malaga right in the south of the country. Sorry, should correct that. It’s a “dramatic limestone landscape of stacked rock formations, cliffs and labyrinths, shaped by nature over millions of years yet continuing to evolve” according to Bentley.
The company has form naming cars after places that employees have seen on holiday – the Bentayga is named after a mountain on Gran Canaria, the Bacalar is a lake in Mexico and Batur is a volcano in Bali. The economy being what it is we fully expect the next model to be the Bentley Yarmouth.
Company boss Frank-Steffen Walliser said: “Our new Torcal sets extraordinary benchmarks in every area that matters, and may just be the most considered car in our history.”

We do know a few things about the new Torcal – it’s going to share its undercrackers with the excellent Porsche Cayenne Electric, it’ll cost somewhere around £150,000 and we’re hoping for a range somewhere close to 400 miles.
We’ve seen it sitting under a sheet already, but couldn’t tell too much about it. It’s lower and slightly shorter than the Bentayga (which has a PHEV option), so is probably intended to be a sportier little badger, though still with that comfortable charm you expect from a Bentley.
When will the Bentley Torcal be unveiled, you ask? The Crewe-based carmaker will be making the trek all the way down to London on 23 September to reveal the production version of the car and all of the exciting details.
That should mean it’ll go on sale before the end of the year, or at the beginning of 2027 at the latest.
The Torcal isn't strictly the first EV to wear the Bentley badge, of course, but the Little Car Company's Bentley Blower is meant to be for [rich] children.
