MG has revealed all of the details about its new mid-sized MGS6 SUV, which follows on from the recent IM5 and IM6 cars the Chinese/British brand has launched.

The MGS6 offers three trim levels in single and dual motor guise, and the whole line-up starts from an entirely reasonable £38k and topping out at around £44k. The five-seater has been designed to offer practical family transport, and uses engineering that's familiar from other MG products, like the MG4 EV

We’ll be bringing you full driving impressions soon, but in the meantime here’s everything we know about the new MGS6 EV.

What does the MGS6 EV look like?

The MGS6 is sharply styled, with a sculpted snoot up front and angled headlights giving it a purposeful look – MG says that the front end has been inspired by its Cyberster electric convertible. Meanwhile at the rear there’s a Mercedes-esque full width light bar.

You get 19-inch alloy wheels as standard on the entry version of the car, which are upgraded to snazzier 20-inch versions on the higher trim levels.

Inside the car you’ve got a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment setup and a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, so the MGS6 is no slouch on the technical front. It does have a useful set of physical buttons though, which we like to see.

All cars get heated front seats and Apple/Android connectivity as standard, while higher trims offer luxuries like wireless phone charging, panoramic sunroof and integrated YouTube and other apps in the infotainment.

There are 674 litres of boot space in the back, expanding to 1,910 litres with the seats tipped down. There’s also a frunk under the bonnet offering a decent 124 litres of space at the front of the car. MG also says that the car has been awarded five stars in its Euro NCAP crash test.

What range does the MGS6 EV manage?

Every MGS6 comes with a 77kWh battery, which has a maximum charging speed of 144kW, which means a 10 to 80% charging time of 38 minutes if the wind is blowing in the right direction. There are two powertrains available with the car – a single motor, rear-wheel drive version that manages 329 miles of WLTP range, and a dual motor all-wheel-drive version that is rated at 301 miles of WLTP range.

The single motor car produces 244hp and 350Nm of torque for a 0–62mph time of 7.3 seconds, while the dual motor car's 361hp and 540Nm of torque make for a racier 0–62mph time of 5.1 seconds. Both cars have a 124mph top speed.

What are the MGS6 EV's rivals?

MG might be trying to go a bit posher with its IM-badged cars, but it hasn't forgotten about the bread and butter mid-sized family electric SUV segment. The MGS6 goes up against the likes of the Skoda Enyaq, Volkswagen ID.4, Renault Scenic E-Tech and Nissan Ariya. So a strongly contested part of the new car market, then, not for the faint hearted.

How much does the MGS6 EV cost and when can I buy one?

There are three options to choose from when you're looking at the MGS6 line-up. The entry car is the SE Long Range, which starts from £37,995. The middle of the pack is the Trophy Long Range costs £40,995 and the top spec Trophy Dual Motor is priced at £43,995. You can order the MGS6 from MG dealers already, with deliveries taking place soon.
