Nissan has revealed final pricing for its new Leaf hatchback, including the news that the car has become the fourth model to be awarded the honour of the full plug-in grant discount from the government.

The news means that the Leaf now starts from £32,249 including the £3,750 for the entry level Engage model. The Engage+ trim starts at £33,149, the Advance spec car will cost from £34,249 and the top spec Evolve rounds out proceedings with a price from £36,249.

We’ve already driven the car and liked what we’ve seen so far. It has a strong specification as well, with all models offering a heat pump and 11kW AC charging. Higher trims include features like Google Maps navigation and V2L capabilities of 3.1kW.

The Leaf will come with a 75kWh battery from launch, which means up to 386 miles of range and 150kW rapid charging for 20–80% charge time of less than 30 minutes. A 52kWh model with 271 miles of range is set to follow at a later date, but pricing for that car has not been announced yet.

The award of the full plug-in car grant will help the Leaf undercut key rivals with similar range on price, including the Kia EV3, Skoda Elroq and Volkswagen ID.3

Key to the Leaf being award the full £3,750 government grant (check out the full list of cars eligible) was the fact that it is being built at Nissan’s Sunderland factory in the northeast of England. The transport secretary Heidi Alexander celebrated the car as a “big boost for manufacturing” in the region, supporting thousands of jobs.

The Leaf is already available to order from Nissan – production begins in December with customer deliveries starting in February.
