Form an orderly queue – the new electric version of the Toyota Hilux will be available to order from 1 June.
The ninth generation version of the venerable pickup will start from £57,845 in its EV guise, and it comes with a 59.2kWh battery that’s good for 150 miles of WLTP range.
That seems like a bit of a small battery to us, but we’re sure that there will be a bit of a market for people who need to carry things but not go too far. The good news is that if you’re buying the electric Hilux for your business it’s eligible for the UK government’s £5,000 plug-in van grant. Yes please to that.

If you’re carrying things, you’ll manage 715kg of them on the truck itself, but it’s also rated to tow 1,500kg of more stuff, so really you’ll end up with more stuff than you know what to do with, plus the added bonus of it being around 150 miles away from where you started.
The Hilux comes with a double cab body style as standard (though Toyota has said that a two-seat version will be made available later on.
There will be two trims available on the electric pickup – Icon comes with alloy wheels and a range of electronic gizmos aimed at improving your off-roading capability (you’ve already got permanent four-wheel drive from the twin e-motors), while Invincible trim brings LED headlights, leather upholstery and wireless charging for your phone.

There will probably be other things in there, but that’s all that Toyota has told us so far to build suspense.
The Icon will cost £57,845 (before the £5k grant) and the Invincible trim will cost £60,695. Orders open on 1 June and Toyota says that deliveries of the electric version of the Hilux will start from mid-June.
But before you settle on the Hilux, it's probably worth taking a gander at the Isuzu D-Max pickup, which goes a weeny bit further and carries a bit more than the Hilux but is a touch more expensive.
