Used EV sales surge as demand increases by 150%

Sales of used EVs have surged in the last year, with Octopus Electric stating that secondhand electric car sales have gone up by 150% compared with the same period last year. Not only that, but the average time that dealers are taking to sell electric cars has almost halved, dropping from 57 days to just 30 days.

This uptick in demand for pre-loved electric cars can be attributed to lots of things, including rising fuel prices and there now being more variety and better quality secondhand electric cars now available. Not only that, but an increased awareness of the benefits of EV ownership and a better general understanding of the lifestyles best suited to going electric is also playing a part. Many buyers are now specifically seeking out a used EV, rather than shopping between electric and petrol or hybrid. 

Furthermore, the increased reliability of electric cars, due to their shorter list of maintenance items and reduced complexity when compared to their ICE-powered counterparts. Just a few days ago, there was news that a survey from NewAutomotive of millions of MOTs had showed that EVs were proving more reliable than petrol cars - even those with high mileage of over 120,000 miles.
