Audi's 'entry-level' electric shares its underpinnings and tech with the Skoda Enyaq and Volkswagen ID.4. Is it 'Audi' enough to justify its loftier price tag?

Ginny Says

“The Audi takes all the best bits of its Volkswagen ID.4 stablemate and adds the sort of premium feel that you'd expect from the brand. You have to pay for it of course but the Q4 really does feel a notch up in terms of cabin quality and overall feel.”

James Says

“The introduction of a cheaper '40' model in 2025 has drastically lowered the starting price of Audi's smallest electric SUV, now making it very competitively priced. It's still a good chunk pricier than its Skoda Enyaq sister, but it justifies it.”

The Q4 e-tron comes with two batteries – 58kWh and 77kWh, and offers a driving range of more than 300 miles.

Audi Q4 e-tron battery and range

The Q4 has been offered with a 77kWh battery pack, but for some time there was also the choice of a smaller 58kWh pack. This was deleted in 2023, but for 2025 Audi reintroduced a smaller battery pack, now rated at 59kWh (useable, 63kWh gross).

Entry-level 40 models have a single-motor set up that sends 202bhp to the back wheels. 40 models get a more powerful 282bhp motor, while 45 quattro models feature a second motor on the front axle but have the same 282bhp output. 55 quattro models deliver 335bhp.

As for range, the most efficient models are the rear-wheel drive 45 versions. The 45 Sport has a WLTP figure of 342 miles, which equates to around 290-310 miles in real world driving. The least efficient, unsurprisingly, are the 55 quattro models. However, even these come with WLTP figures that exceed the magic 300 miles benchmark.

Audi Q4 e-tron charging

Audi has improved the Q4 e-tron’s charging performance significantly since launch. Where early cars could only muster a peak of 100kW, the 2024 versions can charge at a much faster rate. Entry-level 40 models come with a 165kW peak, while 77kWh 45 and 55 models peak at 175kW. According to Audi’s figures, both models can charge from 10-80% on a suitable charger in just under 30 minutes.
