Electrifying.com New Car Awards 2024
Salary Sacrifice Car of the Year: MG4

There’s no getting away from the fact that electric cars are currently more expensive to buy than their petrol or diesel counterparts. It’s not something even the most ardent EV fan could argue against.

But if you’re using it as a company car or are able to lease it through a salary sacrifice scheme run by your employer, the savings will soon add up as the tax man gives you a little encouragement.

Not every electric car will be available through your company’s scheme, and some will be conspicuously better value than others. There’s also the question of availability – you’re likely to want your new car soon and not in a year.

We’ve got together with our friends at Tusker, as they know a thing or two about leasing - and salary sacrifice in particular. They ran the figures and talked to us about supply and running costs while we whittled down the shortlist based on the car’s credentials. There emerged a clear winner – the MG4.

This car isn’t just great value if you are buying outright – it works out cheaper than some much less impressive cars when taken through a salary sacrifice scheme. Do the sums and you could realise that the MG is much cheaper to drive than a privately-leased petrol or diesel car too. It might even be more cost effective than driving an old banger.

There is plenty of stock available to give you the shortest delivery times and choice too – the MG4 is available with three different battery sizes and two trim levels. There’s even a supercar-bashing performance version.

Add in the fact that the MG4 is safe, efficient, modern-looking and spacious enough for the whole family and you’ll see why it is such a popular choice for anyone looking to make the most of the government’s incentives to make the switch.

Founder and CEO of Electrifying.com Ginny Buckley said:

“Besides being a great electric car, the MG4 is the first family EV which can match its petrol rivals on price. Getting one through a salary sacrifice scheme makes the figures even more attractive and will encourage many more car buyers to make the switch to electric.”

Tusker said:

“The MG4 is one of the most popular electric cars on our salary sacrifice scheme with good reason. Besides being great value, we can deliver cars quickly and there is a wide choice to suit most drivers."
