Best Electric Van: Volkswagen ID.Buzz​

While the passenger version might be getting all of us excited, business owners will find that the van version of the Volkswagen ID.Buzz is, well, the business too. In fact we think it’s the best electric van you can buy. 

The ID. Buzz Cargo is Volkswagen's first purpose-built all-electric van and ushers in a new era for both the brand and the commercial vehicle market. Based on the same MEB platform that sits beneath all Volkswagen ID models, the Buzz Cargo is the practical panel van companion to the regular MPV.

Visually the VW ID. Buzz Cargo is a glorious piece of design that sticks close to VW’s original concept and brings a welcome element of style to the electric van segment. You can even specify it in a fabulous two-tone paint finish that’s reminiscent of the classic Volkswagen Transporter of the 1960s. 

But as well as looking good, the VW ID. Buzz is hugely practical. Its twin sliding side doors and the choice of a lifting tailgate or rear barn doors give access to a large load area with a capacity of 3.9 cubic metres. It’s big enough to hold two Euro pallets and has a maximum payload of up to 607 kg, which can be secured via a host of lashing rings in the floor and walls. The ID Buzz Cargo can even tow loads of up to a tonne.

Driver and passengers haven’t been forgotten about either and the Buzz Cargo’s roomy cabin comes in comfortable two or three-set layouts with a cleverly detailed and neatly laid-out dashboard incorporating the latest Discover Pro touchscreen and the ID range’s neat digital instrument cluster.

Thanks to its MEB foundations, the ID. Buzz delivers a smooth and refined driving experience, with a composed ride, pleasantly weighted steering and plenty of load-lugging torque from its motor. Volkswagen’s engineers also need to be congratulated for giving the ID. Buzz an impressively tight 11.1-metre turning circle, which makes manoeuvring around town a piece of cake.

Stylish, practical and good to drive, the VW ID. Buzz is a worthy winner of Electrifying’s Best Electric Van Award.
